Time Management Tips for the Holidays

For most students, the holidays mean a bit of time off from school which usually roughly corresponds with the local schools. This means that parents have a bit of time off with their children. For college students who attend a school like WGU Indiana that runs in terms rather than semesters, it isn't so clear cut. We're still working on tasks and trying to make some ongoing progress. There are two elements that can make this an especially intersting time. For one thing, we need to be able to manage the stress of the  holidays while still getting our school work done. Use some of the tips below to help you get tyhrough the holidays as a collge student.

Don't be afraid to take some time off of school. While you may not want to take a full week off, pencil in at least a couple of days to completely avoid school work. Not only does this give you a break, it also means you come back to your work with fresh eyes.

Make use of WellConnect. WellConnect is a counseling service provided for WGU students. Whether you need someone to talk to about family issues, stress in general, or you need financial counseling and time management strategies, WellConnect is free for you to use at your discretion and it is completely anonymous.

Plan your schedule around time off. Taskstream and WGU do have set days off. Be sure to take a look at the schedule and pay attention to your email so you can prepare for these days. Schedule your tasks and tests to correspond with them. Even if your task is not graded or you have revisions to do, at least you have accomplished actually submitting it. If you need to retake a test, at least you know the elements that you have to focus on.

Give yourself some credit. Make sure to take the time to give yourself some credit. Some people simply cannot manage an online schooling format and others don't have the knowledge it requires to work with a competency based program. You have to put forth extra effort to manage your time and accomplish what you need to do. Whether you are accelerating through your classes or not, at least give yourself some credit for the extra effort that a school like this requires.

Introducing WGU Indiana

In the summer of 2010, Mitch Daniels signed in WGU Indiana as another state college of Indiana. WGU Indiana is actually a part of Western Governors University, a knowledge based online university that has a focus on what the student learns rather than how many hours the student spends in class. It's also one of the very few schools that offer an online teaching degree that leads to licensure as well as an online nursing degree that leads to licensure.

WGU Indiana runs on 6 month terms rather than semesters. New terms start every month so students can sign up at their convenience and complete their courses according to their schedules rather than the traditional school schedules. Generally there are no breaks in between terms, but students can request time off if needed.

Since WGU Indiana is located in Indiana, it is able to accept Indiana state grants, something online students have had to be concerned about when searching for an online school that meets their financial needs as well as their educational needs.

I'm coming to the end of my first term with WGU Indiana and I have to say that it has been a rather pleasant term. In fact, I'm sorry that I put off this blog for so long as it should have been active all through my first term. But, since I did put it off, I was able to acquire knowledge that may be helpful to students who are entering or considering entering their first term at WGU Indiana.

If you're a student now seeking transfer or you're a student who is considering enrolling in a university, I would urge you to consider WGU Indiana. I hope you enjoy this blog and that it helps you to find your way through the various aspects of WGU Indiana. Welcome to knowledge based learning.
